The Club has been holding successful concert nights since 1999. We are keen to provide the opportunity for visiting performers to appear at the Club and are continuing to hold regular concerts during 2008, so if you are a folk performer planning to visit Adelaide and think you/we fit the bill, we'd like to hear from you. Just contact our co-ordinator Peter Thornton and we will see what we can organise! Concerts at the Club are held on Thursday nights, usually one per month depending on our resources. Have a look here if you'd like to see some photos of past performers.

Our final Concert for this year - one for the Scots - features: Eilean Mor - Cathy Fraser - Braemar
Appearing at South Coast Folk Club on Thursday 4th December 2008

Eilean Mor
Cathy Fraser
Braemar
Celtic World Music group EILEAN MOR offer a haunting and thrilling mix of original and traditional songs and tunes. Their music is based on the Scottish Gaelic tradition, uprooted to Australia during the Highland clearances. The band is singer/songwriter Ruth Lee Martin, guitarist Bill Grose, Ed Rodrigues on percussion, Bill Williams on double bass and Chris Stone on fiddle.
EILEAN MOR's musical focus is on original songs from the pen of singer Ruth Lee Martin and traditional songs and tunes interpreted with roots, jazz, world, and hypnotic-minimalist musical leanings. Mouth music, waulking songs, rowing songs, laments and hot fiddle tunes are all part of the repertoire. Also in the repertoire are rare songs written in the Gaelic language in Australia during the 19th century by exiles forced to leave their homes during the highland clearances. Drawing on the Scottish Gaelic tradition, the band has its own unique Australian flavour.
CATHERINE FRASER is one of the Southern Hemisphere's leading Scottish fiddle players. She is in great demand as a performer both in Australia and overseas and is acknowledged for her ability to combine a high level of technical skill with a rare depth of emotional expression. She has performed with, among others, Alasdair Fraser, Hanneke Cassel, Laura Risk, Duncan Smith, Muriel Johnstone, Susie Petrov and Paddy League, as well as playing support for acts such as The Furies, Capercaille,Daniel O'Donnell and the Irish Rovers.
Based in Melbourne, BRAEMAR, consisting of Eddie Lewis and Marc de Rijk, is undoubtedly one of Australia’s best Celtic duos delighting audiences around the country with an impressive performance resumé of classic Scottish and Irish songs. The duo is renowned for lavish harmonies and for its passionate commitment to continuing the tradition. After impressive performances at this year’s Fleurieu Folk Festival, including a standing ovation at their Lochaber No More concert, they are returning to play at South Coast Folk Club and the Celtica Festival at Port Adelaide.
Concert starts at 8pm - Admission is FREE but there is a "compulsory" $5 raffle. Please buy your raffle ticket/s as you come in - help us to keep putting on high quality performers in concert at South Coast Folk Club!
